Stellwagen tuna bite this past week slowed down quite a bit.  Add in the face that all of Massachusetts has been in thick fog the past few days and its been hard to find many signs of life.   Friday was very slow little to no signs of fish from the SWC to the SEC.  There is plenty of bait around as the SWC is loaded with macs, herring and whiting have moved in thick. Plenty of whales / dolphins feeding on the buffet but the tuna are sporadic. The commercial fleet is still picking away with nice sized giants over the past few days.

We ran a scouting run out to the south east corner looking for smaller fish and surface feeds. The SEC is loaded with sharks saw 3 blues, and a Juvenille Mako on the surface. Halfbeaks are also all over the SE corner so its just a matter of time before the fish start keying in on them and we get some surface feeds.

Bait Intel

Squid are increasingly showing in the bay harbors at night.

Macs are still hanging on the east end but not many more place on the west side of the bay.  East side of the bay is loaded with bait from wood end down along the backside.

Humpbacks have joined the minkes off plymouth gorging on the massive schools of pogies.  Pogies are still thick inshore from Plymouth, Marshfeild and Scituate to the North shore.

Inshore Intel

Bonefish have arrived and small ones are being caught from Westport up to Buzzards Bay and into Vineyard sound.   Trolling swimmers and throwing tins at them are doing the trick.

The canal continues to be lights out producing better then the surronding waters of both cape cod bay and buzzards bay.  20 to even 40lb class continue to be weighed in at the shops with the morning bite being the best with the breaking tides over the past week.  Bait continues to be the main attractant with the herring fry pouring out of the run and Macs setup on the east end moving in and out with the tide.

The east end on the boat front has also been producing well over the past few days with fish up to 35lbs on live or chunked macs.  Boats are stacking up just outside the cut picking off any fish that makes it through.  Fish have help up here over the past 72 hours.  The monomoy rips are fishing well with consitent smaller fish being caught.  Outside of the canal boats are having a hard time catching fish over 34".

Offshore Intel

Crab ledge and east of chatham picked up this week with a number of 90" fish with some smaller size fish mixed in for the jig and pop boats.  With the sight of halfbeaks in the area the feeding should start falling into the falls paterns shortly.

Veatch to Western Atlantis on the canyon front is hot for bigeyes.  A state record big eye was caught during the Nantucket Big Game Tournament this past weekend.
