cape cod surface bluefin tuna

Intel

We caught a little bit of luck with Hurricane Florence passing well to the south of us this past weekend with only heavy rain in the forecast for tommorow as the remnants of the storm pass through new england.

So the news out of the weekend was the recreational fleet is starting to do very well out east of the bank.  A number of fish in the 50-70" range are being picked up from a mix of topwater surface lures and live mackeral.  Saturday the mass of fish were east of stellwagen between the south east corner and the shipping lanes in the deep water off the edge (~400-500ft).  The fish moved to the north by Sunday to where the shipping lanes turn west on their approach to Boston.  The whole area has schools of fish chasing halfbeaks and generating some decent surface feeds when the fish stay up for a minute or two.

This entire area on the edge of the lanes held fish over the past few days.  The word is out and there is a pretty good fleet working the area.

Giants have moved into Cape Cod bay in the whiting grounds and up on Jeffries Ledge as evidenced by the thinning out of the usual haunts on the bank.
