Tuna. Tuna. Tuna.  Where are they whos catching them how are they catching them is all anyone is talking about.  The good news is that Giants are here and are being caught regularly.  The bad news is that they are not here in big numbers and the action isnt particularty lite up.  We were on the bank on Sunday and there is plenty of signs of life with bait, whales and plenty of boats.  The fish are just finicky with the water temps hovering on 70 degrees.  The fleet is setup on the notch off the northern edge of the south west corner and there was no life until an afternoon bite that had a handful of boats hook up to sellable fish.   There were a few smaller fish taken off the sword and crab ledge this past week which we are hoping is a start of more to come.  South of the vineyard the small school bluefin have not shown up like in years past and all the inshore spots have been non existent including the fingers, gordons, and the dump.  The offshore boats are watching an eddy that has potential to break off north over the next few days hopefully brining in some fish for the smaller boats.

Effective last Thursday July 26th, NOAA fisheries closed the 2018 recreational trophy bluefin fishery in the northern area.  This shuts down recreational fishing and keeping giants >73" for the 2018 season.  Catch and release is still permited but anglers are advised not to take fish out of the water.

Bait Intel

There are still mackeral to be found.   They are holding on the east end of the canal well and boats fishing the eastd end as well as ditch sharps are livining and getting into the nice action.   They can be had north to the gurnet off plymouth but very spotty after that.   High pine ledge up to scituate is loaded with the pogie schools still and there is now minke whales and dophins gorging on them.

On the east side of the bay wood end is still holding mackerel out in the deep water.  Same with down around the backside peaked hill down to the golfball in 120 ft of water.

On the north shore Boston north is also seeing mass pogie schools with nice 20lb class stripers not far behind.

Inshore Intel

What can you say the the canal continues to be the place to be with  20 - 40lb still being caught with consistency.  The herring run was the place to be with multple 30lb fish weight in.  Be warned the canal is packed right now with parkings lots to capacity at 12am, and shoulder to shoulder fishing during the daytime.

Boats fishing the east end entrance are doing well on artificial seville sinking majic swimmers and hogy paddle tails.  Live linling macks is also doing the trick for the commercial fleet fishing the area.

Billingsgate is holding small sub commercial keeper fish with a few larger fish in the mix.

Scorton creek hasnt lit up yet but boats are starting to work the tube and worm with success on smaller fish.

Barnstable is producing its share of small fish around the channels.

Boats are picking off keepers under the pogy schools off brant rock up to scituate but they fish are not on every school.  Bounce around until you find the schools getting pushed.

Offshore Intel

Shark fishing is hitting its peak off of stellwagen and east of chatham with the water temperatures almot at 70 degrees.  Porbeagles are being caught regularly on the bank in the deep water and teh blue dogs are here in good numbers.  A 400lb thresher was caught two weeks ago on Wildcat Knoll.

Canyon bite remains very strong boats are crushing both Yellowfin and Bigeye mainly in Atlantis and West Atlantis.
