Voluntary Tuna Closure by Buyers

Please note there is currently a moratorium on Tuna purchases by all buyers due to the record low market conditions.  The preference from most commercial fisherman and the buyers is to retain the quota for when the market conditions get better and there are more quality fish in our area.  Please plan ahead before harvesting a fish over the next coming weeks.

***** NOTICE *******

There is a voluntary closure of summer Bluefin Tuna purchasing and sales by all Tuna Buyers.
This means there will be no place to sell your catch.

WHEN:
Sunday July 28th - Monday July 29th
Monday we will reassess market conditions and make a decision to continue the moratorium or reopen.

WHO:
Everybody - All buyers are participating and will not buy tunas during this closure.

WHY:
The domestic and international tuna markets have been flooded with a tremendous oversupply of tuna. This oversupply has driven prices to an all-time low.
In an effort to reduce the supply, all tuna buyers have agreed to stop sales for a few days to give the market a chance to recover.

Updates will be posted as they become available.
